BHT Body Hair Transplant
This page describes BHT (Body Hair Transplant), a hair restoration method that harvests follicles from areas such as the beard, chest, legs or arms and relocates them to the scalp. It offers a solution when scalp donor reserves are insufficient or when baldness is extensive.
Before you travel
At a glance
- Duration
- Session length depends on graft count and case complexity. Most BHT procedures run between 4 and 8 hours.
- Anaesthesia
- Local anaesthesia is standard for BHT. The donor sites on the body and the recipient zone on the scalp are numbed; you remain awake throughout.
- Convalescence
- Mild soreness, redness and swelling in both donor and recipient areas are normal and typically resolve within a few days. Most patients return to everyday activities after roughly one week.
- Results
- Outcomes depend on surgeon experience, follicle quality and individual patient factors. Success rates for BHT are more variable than for conventional scalp-to-scalp grafting. Most patients see meaningful density improvement and are satisfied aesthetically, provided their expectations were realistic from the outset.
Le traitement
What this treatment involves
BHT extends the donor pool beyond the traditional scalp strip by drawing on body sites. Follicles are extracted individually and grafted onto thinning or bald zones, restoring coverage and density naturally.
Common donor sites include:
- the beard
- the chest.
Beard follicles tend to be thicker and most patients prove suitable candidates for beard-to-scalp transfer.
Chest, back, leg, underarm and pubic hair are less predictable; their survival and growth rates fall short of those seen with beard or scalp grafts.
How the Procedure Unfolds
A typical BHT session overseas involves:
- An opening consultation to determine whether body hair is viable for your case
- Shaving and marking the chosen body donor zones
- Follicle-by-follicle extraction from those areas
- Recipient-site creation across the scalp
- Careful placement of each graft into the prepared channels
