Duration

Anaesthesia
Local anaesthesia is standard for BHT. The donor sites on the body and the recipient zone on the scalp are numbed; you remain awake throughout.
Convalescence
Mild soreness, redness and swelling in both donor and recipient areas are normal and typically resolve within a few days. Most patients return to everyday activities after roughly one week.
Results
Outcomes depend on surgeon experience, follicle quality and individual patient factors. Success rates for BHT are more variable than for conventional scalp-to-scalp grafting. What this treatment involves

BHT extends the donor pool beyond the traditional scalp strip by drawing on body sites. Follicles are extracted individually and grafted onto thinning or bald zones, restoring coverage and density naturally.

Common donor sites include:

  • the beard
  • the chest.

Beard follicles tend to be thicker and most patients prove suitable candidates for beard-to-scalp transfer.

Chest, back, leg, underarm and pubic hair are less predictable; their survival and growth rates fall short of those seen with beard or scalp grafts.
